According to IATA’s Time & Temperature Task Force (TTTF) study, the majority of excursions are attributed to incorrect handling of containers around airports (ex. plugging in an electric plug, refilling Dry Ice, loading / unloading of container etc.).
With this challenge in mind, SkyCell created a failsafe container solution that doesn’t require any manual intervention. All parts are integrated and fixed. SkyCell containers are designed to protect from extreme temperatures (70°C to -30°C), provide long independent runt time (160h), and most importantly recharge automatically when placed in a cold room or reefer truck. This “hybrid” solution enables pharma companies to deliver door to door to the most challenging destinations, while the container remains closed at all times.
This market leading performance has lead to an average use by and for pharma clients of 9.5 days (counting from the moment cargo is placed inside until emptied), but uses beyond 20 days are no exception.

Shipment of the Month: Saving almost 20 tonnes of CO2 from Rome via Dubai to Sydney

As part of the customer integration process of another top 10 pharma company, SkyCell 1500C containers have been deployed to ship vaccines from Rome to Sydney.

20181023_141803_resizedThe temperature-sensitive vaccines were shipped from the relatively hot autumn temperatures in Italy with 30plus degrees Celsius through the winter weather in Dubai with 25plus degrees Celsius to the Australian spring with its relatively warm weather between 25 to 30 degrees Celsius.

Take a look at the SkyCell Temperature Tracking System: the temperature inside the container stays at a constant 5 degrees (blue line) meanwhile the ambient temperature (red line) varies between +4° to +32° Celsius.

Now let’s analyze the CO2 footprint:
A regular transport of one US pallet with a commonly used container would have produced 49.75 tons of CO2 emissions.

According to the independent analysis conducted by the renowned myclimate organization, SkyCell containers save 19.27 tonnes of CO2  per US pallet on this trip compared with commonly used solutions (commonly used solution: 755kg volumetric weight incl. cargo, SkyCell 1500 incl. cargo 635kg).
To help you grasp how much 19’270kg of CO2 are: it is equivalent to the emissions of one car driving 128’000 km, more than three times around the globe.
